Users can use their smartphones to retrieve, capture and share noise data with this application, generating noise maps through simulations and crowdsourced noise data developed in conjunction with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France.

The app is capable of analysing the quality of data capture and rendering the data as standardized maps via Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standardized information feeds. OnoMap's goals are to:

    1. raise noise pollution awareness,

    2. improve researchers and decision makers' understanding of the spatial distribution of urban noise,

    3. give citizens a sense of pride and ownership of their territory,

    4. bridge the gap between public research and public action, and

    5. provide a set of scientifically rigorous, experimentally-tested tools generic enough to be used on any European city.
